Terms of Use
Effective July 22, 2026
These terms govern your use of the RockLens iOS app and this website. By using RockLens, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
What RockLens is
RockLens is an educational rock, crystal, gem, and jewelry identification tool. It suggests ranked candidate matches from photos you choose to scan, offers simple home confirmation tests, and may show typical retail price ranges for a species when reliable data exists.
RockLens is not a laboratory assay, appraisal service, gemological certificate, investment advice, or substitute for a qualified professional. Home tests are educational aids, not definitive proof.
Eligibility
You must be able to enter a binding agreement under the laws that apply to you. RockLens is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly market the app to young children.
Accounts and device identity
RockLens does not require a RockLens account. A random device identifier stored in your Keychain enforces free-scan and daily limits and powers a Support ID for help requests. Deleting the app or on-device data does not reset those limits.
Purchases and subscriptions
Optional paid features — including weekly or yearly subscriptions and any lifetime unlock — are sold through Apple’s In-App Purchase system. Pricing shown in the app or on this site may vary by storefront and tax. Payment, renewal, cancellation, and refunds are handled under Apple’s terms and your App Store account settings.
Your on-device collection journal remains available without a subscription. Free scan allowances and premium entitlements are described in the app at the time of purchase.
Acceptable use
Use RockLens only for lawful purposes. Do not attempt to reverse engineer the service beyond what applicable law allows, probe or overload our Worker or providers, bypass usage limits, submit illegal content, or use the app to make claims of appraisal, investment value, or medical or metaphysical certainty that RockLens does not provide.
Your content
You retain rights in photos and notes you create. You grant us a limited license to process scan photos and related data solely to provide identification and operate the service as described in the privacy policy. Your collection remains on your device unless you export it or choose features that send specific data for identification or maps.
Intellectual property
RockLens, its design, branding, and software are owned by us or our licensors. These terms do not transfer ownership of the app or our trademarks to you. Do not copy, redistribute, or create derivative works of the app except as Apple’s platform rules allow for personal use of a licensed copy.
Disclaimers
RockLens is provided “as is” and “as available.” Identification results can be wrong; species lookalikes exist; lighting and photo quality matter. Typical retail price ranges are educational market context for a species — never a valuation of your specific specimen. Actual value varies widely with size, quality, treatment, locality, and market conditions.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, and any warranty that results will be accurate or uninterrupted.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or collecting opportunities, arising from your use of RockLens or reliance on any identification or price range. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of (a) the amounts you paid us for RockLens entitlements in the twelve months before the claim or (b) fifty U.S. dollars (US$50). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limits; in those places, our liability is limited to the maximum allowed.
Third-party services
RockLens relies on third parties including Apple, Cloudflare, Google Gemini, RevenueCat, TelemetryDeck, and Apple Maps. Their terms and privacy policies apply to their processing. We are not responsible for outages or changes by those providers.
Changes
We may update these terms as the product evolves. The effective date above will change when we do. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms. Material changes may also be noted in the app or on this site.
